It's A Boy!- Parshat Shemot

This weeks Parsha, Parshat Shemot was filled with so many things, one of them being Moshe was born! But Pharoh did not like the Jews and decreed for all baby boys to be killed in the river. Yocheved, Moshe's mother does not want to kill her son, so she sends him off in the river in a basket. Bat-Pharoh (Batya) sees a baby in the river and stretches out her arm (another miracle) to grab him.

I decided to make Baby Boy in a basket cupcakes (the blue foot prints and the brown around the cupcake) because it was a miracle that Bat-Pharoh saw Moshe in the river and he became the savior of the Jewish people.

May we be able to find our saviors or be our own and bring the geulah!

One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish- Parshat Vayechi

In this weeks Parsha, Parshat Vayechi, Yaakov/Yisroel gives bracha's to all of his sons. He begins with Yosefs two sons Menashe and Ephraim. He crosses his hands and puts his right hand on Ephraims head even though he was the younger one and his left hand on Menashe's head. In the bracha Yaakov says "Hamalach hagoel oti mikol ra yevarech et han’arim vikareh bahem sh’mi V’shem avotai Avraham v’Yizchak v’yidgu larov b’kerev ha’aretz." V'yidgu meaning they should multiply like fish.

I chose to do fish cupcakes for this weeks Parsha, to represent all of the "fish" that came out of that Bracha.

Just like Yaakov gave a specific Bracha to each of his sons that was tailored for them, may Hashem bless us with exactly what we need.

Jump on the Wagon- Parshat Vayigash

In this weeks Parsha, Parshat Vayigash Yosef reveals himself to his brothers and would like to tell his father Yaakov that he is alive. But how would he make his father believe that he is really alive. He had to send something to prove to Yaaov that its really Yosef. Yosef was going to send wagons to his father with his brothers, why wagons you ask, as Rashi says "because as Yosef explained to his brothers to tell Yaaov, the last topic that Yaakov and Yosef studied together was the Eglah Arufah (If a stranger is found murdered between two cities, a calf is sacrificed by the town leaders) The word Agalot/ wagons, cans also be translated into calves.

I chose to make agalot/wagon cupcakes because it was a clear sign for Yaakov that his beloved son
Yosef was still alive. May we all have clear signs in our lives, just like Yaakov did, to see what really is meant for each of us.

Parshat Miketz and Thanksgivukkah

In this weeks Parsha, Parshat Miketz, Yosef had been in jail for 2 years and he was finally let out. However it says how he did not run out like you would think someone who has been in jail for so long would, it says in the pasuk "vayiritzuhu min habor” they had to hurry him. Rav Hirsch explains that Yosef, after making the mistake in believing that the Sar Hamashkim would get him out of jail and then being punished for it, he realizes that everything is from Hashem. Therefore he does not run out of jail because ultimately it is the king of kings who is bringing him out of jail not Pharoh. Yosef continues to show his emunah in Hashem whenever he interprets a dream for Pharoh because he tells Pharoh, its not coming from me, its coming from Hashem and in the end Pharoh is a believer and recognizes that Yosef's success comes from Hashem.
The dreams that are specific in this Parsha are the dreams of cows and ears of grain. Pharoh dreams of 7 fat cows and 7 skinny cows, and the fat cows eat the skinny cows, and the same thing with the grain. Yosef interprets it to be 7 years of abundance and 7 years of famine. The Sfat Emet talks about how those cows represented Shabbos, and how we need Shabbos to help us prepare for the 6 days after. So when Hashem gives us abundance it's not just for that moment, but also to hold on to for when that abundance is not so clear to us.
I chose to make my Parsha cupcakes this week the fat cow and the skinny cow to represent the dreams that Pharoh had. also being that it was Thanksgivukkah yesterday I made turkey and dreidel cupcakes. Turkey on the outside and dreidels hidden on the inside, just like the story of Chanukah, the Jews had to hide who they were but the true essence was what really was on the inside also we really can see in the miracle of Chanukah that everything comes from Hashem.

Shabbat Shalom!

Keep calm and make a (Parsha) cupcake!

8 weeks ago for Parshat Noach, I decided for fun to make rainbow cupcakes. Little did I know that it would use my creative energy in ways I didn't know possible. Not only am I learning the Parsha and each week actually knowing what it is, but I hope I am inspiring people to do the same. I decided to start a blog so everyone can enjoy my creations all at once. Below are the last 8 weeks of cupcakes starting with Parshat Noach all the way to this past weeks Parsha, Parshat Vayshev. Looking forward to coming up with more creative ideas for the Parsha for everyone to enjoy!
